A NEW LOOK FOR PURE MOVES + PILATES TO BURN SOME SERIOUS CALORIES

They say change is as good as a holiday and personally, I like nothing like a little spruce up to keep things fresh. So you can imagine my delight when I waltzed into my Pilates haven, Pure Moves recently. The Cottesloe studio that once sported that iconic purple wall, has debuted a sleek new look with a pared back modern, minimalist style, giving the space an exclusive, luxe studio feel. The renovations included a brand new lounge area for clients to relax in pre or post class, a redesigned reception area, plenty of lush greenery and stunning finishes including modern hanging pendant lights and, my personal favourite, matte black sink and tap ware in the kitchen. The redesign has given the studio more of a unisex feel and has really given the space an amazing lift.

Inspired by the beautiful new fit-out at Pure Moves, and feeling very uninspired by the volume of hot cross buns and chocolate consumed last weekend, I checked into Pure Moves for a post-Easter blitz. I’ve rounded up some of the best classes to schedule in if you’re looking to work up a serious sweat.

Athletic Reformer
Some smart cookie took my favourite Pilates workout and (somehow) made it better. Athletic Reformer is everything you love about the spring loaded resistance workout, but at a higher intensity to really get the heart rate going! I love Reformer because it strengthens and lengthens muscles without adding bulk, and Athletic Reformer takes it to a whole new level with a series of exercises that burn more calories and sculpt the body faster. I jumped into a 6am class and it was the perfect way to wake my body up and get ready for the day. Highly recommend!

TRX
A sure fire way to get your muscles (and metabolism) going is with a TRX class. This workout focuses on suspension training and the movements of the body while, well…suspended. Designed to work core muscles and increase strength, TRX at Pure Moves is a 45 minute class that is over before you know it and the results are almost instantaneous. I particularly felt the burn in my legs, until the next day when my core decided to kick in and my abs ignited. There is nothing like that all over body soreness after an amazing workout.

Boxilates
This game changer combines good old fashioned boxing with a toning Pilates mat class. It’s interval style training at its best which improves cardio fitness, strength and works the core, arms and back. This is a great class that is suitable for all fitness levels. Pure Moves offer three Boxilates classes per week, 8.30am Wednesday, 6.15pm Thursday and 6am Friday.

HYDRAFACIAL REVIEW: SKIN CLINIC FREMANTLE

When it comes to skincare, I am a big believer that prevention is better than cure. A solid daily skincare regime combined with targeted maintenance such as monthly facials or peels are a sure fire way to keep skin health in check and knock any issues on the head. But as our days get busier, and with so many treatments available, it can sometimes become all too hard to know what to select for maintenance, let alone find a time to fit it in. Recently, I was treated to a HydraFacial at Skin Clinic Fremantle. Hailed as the ultimate multi-step treatment, the HydraFacial is a resurfacing procedure that promises clear and evenly toned skin, without any downtime. Read about my experience and why I’ll be making this incredible treatment part of my regular skin maintenance.

Originating from California, the HydraFacial is the ultimate multi-step treatment that promises to “cleanse, evenly exfoliate and extract to remove impurities and dead skin cells while also replenishing vital nutrients including Antioxidants, Peptides and Hyaluronic Acid.” The treatment uses a unique Vortex-Fusion serum delivery system to deposit medical grade serum into the skin at each step which helps loosen up dead skin cells while simultaneously vacuuming the skin and removing excess oil and other congestion. It is completely painless, not time intensive and requires no down time. In fact, I went to my friend’s engagement party on the evening after my treatment, looking quite radiant might I add.

The Skin Clinic Fremantle is a boutique medical practice offering comprehensive skin cancer service, including screening, and both surgical and non-surgical treatments including cosmetics. Owned and run by Dr Sarah Boxley, the clinic provides a dedicated and caring level of service to all who walk through the doors.

I arrive to Skin Clinic Fremantle on a wet and windy Saturday for my HydraFacial. Located in the heart of the port city, the clinic keeps a discreet profile on the street – perfect for those after a little more privacy. Today I am in the very capable hands of Vicky, a dermal therapist who has been in the business for over 20 years and whose passion for skin and beauty is infectious. The treatment begins with a skin consultation where Vicky and I chat about my main skin concerns (congestion and oiliness – always!), my current skincare regime and some recommendations moving forward. Vicky also introduces me to Synergie Skin, a range I have been dying to try, and suggests a few products to incorporate into my daily routine.

After a quick cleanse using Synergie Skin UltraCleanse to remove any makeup, Vicky began the five-step HydraFacial process. Step one involves a thorough cleanse and exfoliation where excess skin cells are removed to reveal healthy new skin. Step two involves an acid peel, which sounds scary but is honestly the best thing for loosening dirt and debris from the pores without irritation and to make way for step three, extractions. This is a completely painless step where pores are cleaned out with vortex suction. Next, skin is infused with antioxidants and hyaluronic acid to nourish and protect, reduce the appearance of fine lines and provide deep hydration.

Following this, I am led into another treatment room for 15 minutes of absolute bliss under the Healite. The LED light enhance’s the body’s natural cellular recovery including improving healing times, promoting skin rejuvenation and subsiding active acne. Vicky leaves me under the warm lamp while my skin soaks up the goodness of the HydraFacial.

I am on cloud nine as I wander back to the reception where Vicky sees me off. Later that day I had my makeup done for a party and my makeup artist commented on the visible glow my skin was boasting and how well makeup was sitting on the skin. The weeks following my HydraFacial my skin felt super cleansed and springy, it had finally had the clean it really deserved! Makeup sat so well, products absorbed beautifully and my skin felt its healthiest in a long time.

The bottom line? I’m convinced.

HydraFacial will set you back $160 at Skin Clinic Fremantle. The procedure is painless and takes only about 30 minutes – hello lunch time facial!
